“Bee” Crafty Together

Some days it feels like our DIY list is a mile long.  Mr Pretzel and I keep steadily chipping away at it but I think we are both losing energy.

A couple weeks ago we were starting to fizzle.  We were in the messy stage of deciding on typefaces for invitations, invitation design, and music.  The last thing that I wanted to do was pick up my glue gun.  But we had committed ourselves to a weekend of crafting with friends.  That’s right- social crafting. Mr Pretzel’s friend J invited us to a craft night at her house.
Such a smart girl J, she invited us to bring a project (we decided to tackle goccoing our Thank You cards) and she served homemade pizza.  The real reason for the craft night? J is planning a spring wedding and like me, has a DIY list a mile long. In addition to Mr P and I, her Mom and two besties were also there, helping J assemble boxes for her favors.  In a couple hours time they had completed almost 100 boxes that looked very similar to this.

We talked crafts, drank wine, and most importantly got stuff done.  I was very impressed with Mr P and the level of interest that he had in the whole thing.  However, after trying his hand at the gocco and nom nom nom-ing on pizza, Mr P fell asleep watching the Olympics- we tuckered him out. It was great to see the projects that J was planning and chatting about wedding stuff really helped to get us back in gear.
The very next day I met up with Mrs Joey for lunch and a paper/fabric flower tutorial.  I showed her the ropes of making crepe paper flowers and fabric flowers so she could make some for her beautiful new house.  After lots of Bee bonding we had 8 or 9 flowers completed between the two of us.  I’m so excited to add the flowers to my bridesmaid bouquets.
You would think that after a craft filled weekend, this already DIY overloaded bride would be frazzled. Quite the opposite, I felt invigorated and renewed- ready to tackle the next DIY project.  This got me thinking…

We do reader meet-ups (which are amazing BTW- if you haven’t been to one- GO!)  but what about a DIY meet up- BYOP (bring your own project)?  I floated the idea on the Seattle boards and got some positive response.  As always, the organizer of us Jet City girls- TPHoliday- took the reins and has helped us get our acts together regarding location/date and time.  So, if you are in the Seattle Area March 20 and want to get together and “Bee” crafty head over to this post on the Seattle Boards.
Are you organizing craft nights with friends and family to motivate yourself?
