Beer On the Brain: The Recipe

The Hive seemed to have a lot of interest in the recipe that we used for our favor prototype. I must be honest- it is a great recipe.  The only reason that we aren’t 100% decided to use this one is because Mr Pretzel is still trying to track down a family beer bread recipe- which we think would be more sentimental.

Without a recipe of my own I turned to Google.  “Beer Bread Jar Recipe” yielded a couple contenders.  Published on this recipe seemed the most interesting with corn meal, pepper flakes and onion flakes.  Enjoy!

Beer Bread Mix
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose unbleached flour
  • 2/3 cup yellow corn meal
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 4 teaspoon dried minced onion
  • (approximately 3 cups for a 32 ounce container)

  • brown sugar
  • corn meal
  • Parmesan, red pepper, onion – combined
  • flour combined with baking powder, baking soda, salt

Cooking Instructions

Place contents of jar in a medium mixing bowl. Stir in 12 ounces of beer, just until combined. Pour into a greased 8 x 4 x 2″ loaf pan and bake at 375°F for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cover with foil during last 10 minutes to prevent over browning. Cool in pan 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Cool completely or serve warm.
