Just a Smidge of Color

I love when a plan comes together!  Ok, maybe it isn’t just a smidge of color- remember, we’re planning a brightly colored bash.   Previously I told you about:

Despite my ever changing mind and only being able to go shopping with one girl (the rest are all a plane ride away) the Pretzel Maids came through!  I got an e-mail today- every one of my girls has picked out her dress- even my Jr Bridesmaid.

Behold the Pretzel wedding party:

From left to right:

Jr Bridesmaid C: David’s Bridal JB2815 in Oasis
Bridesmaid/FSIL M: Dessy Bridesmaid 2721 in American Beauty
Matron of Honor/SIL Tig: David’s Bridal 81591  in Oasis
Bridesmaid R: Dessy 2058 in Clementine
Bridesmaid H: After Six 6537 in Apple Slice
Bridesmaid/FSIL S: Dessy Bridesmaid 2764 in Spa

I couldn’t have picked better dresses for each of them and their body types.  I also love that my niece’s dress matches her Mom’s- how cute is that?  Mr Pretzel is worried that the girls will look like they just showed up with something out of their closet- but I think the matching GM ties will be a dead giveaway- all this brightness was intentional.

Did you dare to dress your gals in wildly different colors?  Do you think it looks planned or a bit haphazard?  Share photos of your mismatched maids!

Red Retro Christmas Inspiration

This weekend Mr Pretzel and I are going to decorate our Townhouse for Christmas.  In my family it has always been a tradition that my brother and I get new Christmas ornament each year.  I love decorating the tree and every time I pull out another ornament it brings with it memories.  One year we all got clay skiers that resembled each of us, another year ruby red apples with our names in gold. As a result of my parents tradition, both my brother and I have a tree full of memories.

This year I ordered Mr Pretzel and I an ornament to mark the year of our engagement.  While I was shopping online I saw a couple contenders for next year’s ornament as newlyweds. Perhaps my favorite is this initialized red and white number.

My brain has been swimming with all things vintage wedding  lately and this ornament made me think of a red and white vintage party dress that I saw on Etsy (note: the dress sold earlier this week- *pout*).  It would make a great wedding dress for a brave bride.  It doesn’t take much to get my mind turning. and my brain started to think of a fabulous red and white vintage wedding.

Seriously? SWOON… I almost started to rethink our colors… Almost.

My Glasses Rockin’ “Bridol”

Ms P Chips post about Bridols got me thinking about my own real life Bridol.  This past September, Mr Pretzel and I attended the FABULOUS wedding of Pretzel Groomsman V and the beautiful W.  This was our first wedding since getting engaged and we were like sponges. While enjoying the extremely touching and personal ceremony and reception, Mr P and I made a number of mental notes about the killer details and inspiration that surrounded us.  Over dinner the other night, V and W gave me the green light to share some of their wedding details with the hive.

The Venue: SoDo Park by Herban Feast voted best New Wedding Vendor, Best Caterer, & Best New Reception Site for 2009  by Seattle Bride. This venue is amazing! Located in the industrial SoDo neighborhood of Seattle, it has quirky touches everywhere. Old neon signs tucked in back corridors and a plethera of exposed rough hewn wood.  Airy and urban, Mr P and I fell in love with this space.  The food, well, words cannot describe the amazing cuisine that we were treated to.

The Bride Wore Glasses! It never dawned on me that I didn’t have to ditch my specs on my wedding day. I’m totally in love with the idea of wearing my glasses at my wedding now.  I have decided, but I am leaning towards it.

Dahlia’s I don’t need to say anything more! The bridesmaid and Bride bouquets were made with blooms from Seattle’s famous Pike Place Market.

The Groom brewed his own beer (he is quite talented) which was available at the bar. It was darn tasty. (the photo below has nothing to do with beer- I just love it!)

Mr P and I snuck off to explore the maze like corridors of the building which also houses office space.  We spied a leftover prop from the filming of Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo Film.

We also found a dust-covered New Belgium Brewing Bicycle and had an impromptu photos session. We were practicing all of our ANTM moves for our E-photos. 🙂

A little more  wedding p0rn for you…

Sit Atop My Cupcake

Mr Pretzel loves cupcakes… no, no, no, I don’t think you get me… he LOOOOVES cupcakes.  According to him it is the perfect serving of cake.  They are like little cake nirvana in your hand.  I like cupcakes and I’m not too crazy about  wedding cake. So it was a no brainer early on- we were having wedding cupcakes.

While that was an easy decision, how to top the cupcakes was not so easy. After trolling Etsy, I quickly realized that most traditional toppers would not work on cupcakes.  Time to brainstorm mini-toppers that would work on cupcakes.

First, I looked into using LEGO Minifigs, since Mr Pretzel is a LEGO fan.  In my head, I saw a Princes Leia and Han Solo Minifig topper.  But I soon found out that the Leia I envisioned, the one in white with cinnamon bun hair, was hard to find. Ironically the bikini clad Slave Leia was readily available… ummm yeah… no.  While searching for Minifig Leia, I found out that Lego actually made Bride and Groom Minifigs.  Most of the grooms were sporting tuxes, and Mr Knit Pretzelis wearing a vest- no jacket.  I stumbled on this vest clad groom and bride on ebay for just under $40:

LEGO Minifig "I Do"

LEGO Minifig "I Do"

Done- check it off the list!  I was sure Mr Pretzel would be thrilled with my LEGO find.  Surprise, Surprise he was not very excited about the minifigs- actually he down right didn’t like it.  *sigh*  I was back to square one, so I went back to Etsy and did something novel- I searched on exactly what I was looking for- “Cupcake Wedding Topper”.  *DING DING DING*  We found a winner!  Right at the top of my search results was Custom Cupcake Toppers by goosegrease.  These adorable painted wooden people won my heart.  Let me introduce you to my cupcake topper obsession:

These little guys set you back $40 and are customizable to look like you and your groom.  I could see mini-me sporting turquoise pumps, and mini-Mr Pretzel rocking his signature Converse All Stars. *eeek! Yay!*

$40 was within the range I was wiling to pay, but it was the upper limit. At the back of my mind something was tugging at me.  “I could do that… and it would be fun!”  I put the topper into my Etsy favorites and would come back to “check in” with them from time to time over the next months.  They even graced a couple of my inspiration boards.

Have you not purchased something because you thought you might Do It Yourself?  How did your DIY version come out?

When I lose my words…

Miss Pretzel has been busy! Lots to catch up on… but today has been reserved for working on our Save the Dates so my blogging is postponed until we’ve made some progress. This is our first “time sensitive” wedding task and we’re doing a good job of blocking out time to work on it.. I promise to post lots about this creative process but for now you’ll just have to settle for the our reception “Wordle”.
I have a problem “losing my words” when describing things orally, but on paper I can really get my thoughts down. I was trying to figure out how to describe our reception and decided to create a Wordle. Enjoy! PS… they are fun- create your own at www.wordle.net

Inspiration with Dessy

With such a bright color pallet, you might imagine finding bridesmaids dresses would be hard.  It was…strike that, it is (we aren’t 100% on the BM dresses yet).   If a dress maker had a pretty bright pink, they didn’t have an orange, or they had a green but not he right green. I knew exactly what I wanted and didn’t really find it until I stumbled on www.Dessy.com.  I personally like the After Six and the Alfred Sung lines.

Two main things that I love about the site?  Hundreds of dress options in tons of colors, and dresses that have “accent” colors so you aren’t limited to one color.  Seriously- I spent hours this summer, taking screen shots of dresses I liked, editing out the background in Photoshop (not always easy!) and putting into PowerPoint so I could see all the dresses together and so I could share with Mr Pretzel.   Lots and lots of hours… the result looked something like this:

Not all that inspiring… Over time I got better at making inspiration boards and started using different web tool like www.snipi.com to organize my photos and sources.  I started to leave the maids out of my inspiration boards because I couldn’t quite get the images edited properly to remove the background.  If only Dessy had launched the Inspiration Board part of their site then!  It seriously kicks butt!  Using dresses and a tie from the Dessy site and uploaded images of my own I was able to make this inspiration board in just a couple minutes.

The best part? As my maids tell me which dress they selected I can update my board to reflect the actual dresses they will be wearing.  *Sigh*  I heart Dessy 🙂

What handy tools have you found to organize your inspirations?  Have you revisited your inspiration board frequently?

Kodachrome Wedding

Mama P says I was born in the wrong era.  Perhaps she is right. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the music of the 1980’s and the 1990’s, but I have a deep love for the music of the 50’s, 60’s and 70′.  Simon and Gar, CCR, the Beatles, and Janis Joplin played in the Pretzel car all the time growing up.  My favorite song, Kodachrome by Simon and Garfunkel.  I soon discovered that Mr Pretzel shares my love of this song. We love to cue it up on the iPod and sing like idiots.  To us, the song embodies fun, vivid color.

When we started to select our color pallet, I had a hard time eliminating colors.  My favorite color is Turquoise/Aqua.  But I also am partial to green, bright pink, and orange.  With the exception of orange (it makes me look ill) I wear the other colors a lot.  As I struggled to pick one or two colors- Mr Pretzel solved my problem. Use them all!  Duhhh  why didn’t I think of that?  We started to refer to our wedding as a Kodachrome wedding and our vision of it started to come together.  Check out my inspiration board:

Are you limiting your color pallet to one or two colors?  How has music influenced your wedding decisions?

Lyrics to Kodachrome :
When I think back on all the crap I learned in high school
It’s a wonder I can think at all
And though my lack of education hasn’t hurt me none
I can read the writing on the wall

Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world’s a sunny day, oh yeah
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So Mama don’t take my Kodachrome away

If you took all the girls I knew when I was single
And brought them all together for one night
I know they’d never match my sweet imagination
Everything looks better in black and white

Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world’s a sunny day, oh yeah
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So Mama don’t take my Kodachrome away
Mama don’t take my Kodachrome away
Mama don’t take my Kodachrome away
Mama don’t take my Kodachrome away

Mama don’t take my Kodachrome
Mama don’t take my Kodachrome
Mama don’t take my Kodachrome away

Mama don’t take my Kodachrome
Leave your boy so far from home
Mama don’t take my Kodachrome away

Mama don’t take my Kodachrome
Mama don’t take my Kodachrome away
